Ontario Arts Council 2008 Program Calendar

This is a brochure for the Ontario Arts Council that contains the 2008 Granting Program Deadlines. This brochure is one of their main assets, as it spans the full calendar year and functions as the communication for all of their deadline for applications.

In previous years the brochure was oversized so it could work as a poster in some applications. We redesigned the format to it still had the duality of brochure / poster but made it more compact in brochure form and larger in poster form. The format was designed so that the viewer interacts with the printed piece by unfolding it to reveal the information and graphic. The poster folds out to 20 x 30 inches. The upper half of the poster contains the OAC acronym repeated, like a bulletin. This was done to emphasize the heading when the poster is hanging on a wall competing for attention. We also liked that both the sides at the top mirrored each other so when you are unfolding the brochure it's both the first and second thing you see. It also serves as a way for the viewer to distinguish from the top and bottom while unfolding. All the dates are on the bottom of the poster which means the person can read the dates without completely unfolding the poster, and comfortably hold the brochure and read through it although it is a large document. The poster is printed on two sides, English on one, and French on the other.

In addition to this for the first time they wanted to produce a piece that would hold all the information but fit into a pocket. We created a ten panel pocket sized version which contained all the same information of the poster, including the English on one side and French on the other. The addition of this smaller brochure meant they could print significantly less posters, and save some trees.

The illustration is a reference to the nature of the Granting Programs. We liked the thought of the dates being surrounded by a bunch of floating wishes.
