Reel Life Identity

Reel Life is a company that specializes in the conversion of all types of media to digital archives. They also photograph or video capture events and present them in a contained package in print or digitally.

This is the identity we created for them. The identity is inspired by the post-industrial era. The era of the advent of the home movie, consumerism, and the resurgence of the nuclear family. The imagery and graphics used on products and packaging, particularly in the photo and video field have a great quality. Their tone and function is something that is sort of lost in modern times.

We incorporated those sparse graphics and illustrations into the identity for Reel Life. We did so in a way were, although the source of inspiration was vintage the application definitely was modern. We also used a colour pallette inspired by the vintage products. The dark solid neutral brown was taken from the colour of old film, and the blue was taken by using the generic appliance sea foam colour and cooling it down with more blue. We actually thought of the blue by seeing some old film tins. The colour of the tins that old film reels were stored in have a soft metallic tone which is somewhere between the sea foam and a blue grey.

We designed an number of assets for them, including a postcard which can be used to introduce their clients to the visual vocabulary of their identity, as well as multipurpose stickers, which they can apply to the outer packaging or media cases.
